One potential option for assessment and treatment (to avoid major costs to insurance companies) would be to assess patients individually with both a research team (who has access to neuroimaging tools) and the patient's primary doctor and psychiatrist (who know the patient intimately and can prescribe medication) in order to develop a treatment plan.
This will allow patients to receive a straightforward, comprehensive evaluation, and then researchers can remove all personal information from the patient’s file in order to add their findings to the pool of data, which can eventually be analyzed and published in neuroscience journals.
